Luis Girón, Colombian-American bilingual educator, B.A. in Modern Languages, English, Spanish & French, Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia, UNC Chapel Hill, World View Recognition, Cultural Educator of the year Award 2005 nominee, 2024 FLANC Teacher of year (K-12) Nominee. FLANC, Board of directors, Independent School Rep. & presenter (2022-present) US Spanish Teacher, Ravenscroft School, Raleigh, NC.

Outside of the school settings and World Language Association board Meetings. Luis Girón cherishes his time with his wife, Paola and his two children: Michelle & Gian Paul. He indulges in reading and writing, explores new destinations through travel, enjoys spinning and listening to his favorite vinyls and 8 Track collection, dancing Latin music, playing with his cats, following world football (Soccer) and searching for the perfect barbecue across North Carolina.

Adriana Velasquez, NC Chapter Treasurer

Adriana Velasquez was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Los Andes University. After specializing in Business Administration in Spain, she came to the United States with her husband and son, where she operated her own business offering bookkeeping and income tax preparation services as a Registered Tax Preparer and a IRS-Certified Agent for 12 years. Following her passion, in 2013, she graduated from Meredith College with a Master’s of Arts in Teaching and has served elementary and middle schools before joining Raleigh Charter High School as a Spanish teacher.

Mia Foster, NC Chapter Communication Coordinator

NC native, Mia Foster, B.A. in Spanish, North Carolina State University. Spring ’25 graduate from UNC Charlotte University for a Graduate Certificate for Teaching Licensure. Also currently working at West Cabarrus High School as a Spanish I and II Teacher. Her reason to teach is that her goal is to change the world and teaching is the avenue that she figured she would make the most difference. Interesting facts about Mia, she enjoys watching K-Dramas and is a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Inc. sorority. Additionally she enjoys doing puzzles and playing games in her free time.

The Secretary shall take minutes at all meetings, prepare the minutes for the Executive Council’s approval, and archive the approved minutes on the chapter website. This individual will also send notices to the members of the forthcoming meetings.
