Statement of NSE Activities for the year ended June 30, 2016

 

Exam activity. In the spring of 2016, 73 teachers administered the examinations in 40 schools to 2,739 students. The spring of 2016 saw an increase in the number of exams administered to students in North Carolina. In the spring of 2016, 2,739 students took the NSE in North Carolina in comparison to 2,563 students who took the NSE in 2015.

Test promotion. An increase in the number of students taking the NSE is attributed to more teachers administering the exam in 2016. To educate and inform teachers about the NSE, Jan Cox, the chapter coordinator in North Carolina sent out e-mails to all AATSP-NC members. At the fall FLANC conference in North Carolina, a presentation on the National Spanish Exam was given at the chapter’s annual meeting. Jan Cox was on hand at the AATSP conference table to answer any questions pertaining to the National Spanish Exam. Awards. In 2016, there were a total of 113 certificates of recognition from the North Carolina NSE coordinator and gift cards from Barnes and Noble were awarded of first, second, third, fourth and fifth place recipients. Twenty-three first place recipients received gift cards of $40.00. Twenty-six second place recipients received gift cards of $35.00. Twenty-three third place recipients received gift cards of $30.00. Twenty fourth place recipients received gift cards of $25.00. Twenty-one fifth place recipients received gift cards of $20.00.

Financial Statement. The beginning balance as of July 1, 2015 is $4,068.44. Total Chapter NSE fees collected were $4,156.50. Total student awards dispersed were $3,440.00. Total administrative expenses were $112.42. The ending book balance as of June 30, 2016 was $4,672.52. The ending bank balance as of June 30, 2016 was $4,672.42. The difference of .10 is the monthly account maintenance fee of $1.00 ($12.00 annually) minus the monthly annual account dividends earned (account dividends earned $11.10).
